Translating Ethnic Studies Frameworks for Teacher Educators

This presentation invites teacher educators to reflect on their role and purpose in supporting the preparation of Ethnic Studies teachers in K-12 contexts. Recent policy changes, such as AB 101 and AB 2016, have made Ethnic Studies a core part of the curriculum and a requirement for high school graduation in California. Such changes require significant retooling of our teacher preparation programs, especially with respect to defining frameworks that guide our teacher education work. The presentation will also address how educational leadership can follow suit in preparing school leaders to better serve these new Ethnic Studies teachers.
